Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetic. The prostheses they provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Megan’s mother, Melinda Welsh did some research on the web and found out that their were some guidelines to follow. The hair needs to be minimum ten inches long measured tip to tip in order to be used for a hairpiece. Hair must be in a ponytail or braid before it is cut and must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed in. When shipping the ponytail or braid it must be placed inside of a plastic bag, and then inside of a padded envelope.
Melinda and Andy feel very proud of Megan for making a sacrifice to help another child in need. Megan says “that I really love my new haircut and I feel really great knowing that I am helping a child who has lost their hair because of cancer”.
