Sanibel Weather-The Islands Prepares Properly For Tropical Storm Fay

Sunday August 17th, 2008 Sanibel City Council convened to have a meeting to discuss preparation for Tropical Storm Fay. As of now Sanibel remains under a “Hurricane Watch” as issued by the National Weather Service.

As of Sunday evening Tropical Storm Fay was located 395 miles south of Sanibel Island. Fay is moving towards the west/northwest at a rate of 15 mph. Forecasters expect a turn towards the northwest and a slower forward speed tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecasted.
At this time, Sanibel remains within the 3-day forecast cone. The City of Sanibel strongly urges all residents, business owners and visitors to closely monitor the weather forecasts related to this storm and take necessary precautionary actions to ensure your safety and protect your property.

City of Sanibel Administrative Offices, 800 Dunlop Road (239) 472-3700, will be open for storm preparation starting at 8:00 am on Monday, August 18th. The Sanibel Police Department, 800 Dunlop Road, will also open at 8:00 am for Hurricane Pass distribution.
