Many of these families were once in the position to be givers but because of the upset in the economy and loss of jobs they now find themselves in the position of needing to be helped. Mike feels the need to get involved and help his fellow neighbor by being one of the drop zones for food donations. If you would like to help please drop off canned goods or non perishables, including bug spray, to The Island Store on Captiva or The Roadhouse , just off of MgGregor Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL.
Owner and Founder, Lorraine Jara, of Toms River, New Jersey, heard a story of two young men who were overturned in a kayak, left by many who passed by, were rescued by two woman, but one man died due to hypothermia. This act of benevolence moved Lorraine into action. She felt compelled to start BK2HW as a result in 1988.
BK2HK is Be Kind To Humankind. It is a celebration of kind people and the kind acts that they perform all across the globe. It is recognized from August 25-31 each and every year and is basically a week long holiday. Each day has a different theme.
Kimberly Becker of Labyrinth Consultants, Inc. is from Ft. Myers, Florida and her coworkers have asked Lorraine how they could bring “Be Kind to Humankind Week” into their area to help with the many wonderful things that their organization does to help others. This year they would specifically like to help collect food and other needed goods for the folks at Community Cooperative Ministries Incorporated (CCMI). CCMI is the umbrella agency that serves multiple organizations in downtown Fort Myers, including The Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels and Faith in Action. Labyrinth Consultants will have a number of locations to drop off items during the week. Canned goods, non-perishable foods, toiletries, and monetary donations are all accepted.
Lorraine’s hope is that “Be Kind to Humankind” will continue to inspire, comfort and enrich many more lives!
