”In SW Florida, we have a calendar chock full of community events, but very few accurately reflect our cultural heritage - not so with the SanCap Cracker Fest.” said chapter board president, Bruce Neill.
Held behind the Bait Box in a dirt parking lot, the menu featured smoked mullet caught and prepared by Ralph Woodring, hushpuppies, pit-roasted pig, coleslaw and homemade desserts.
There was music and a castnet-throwing contest, along with silent and live auctions to generate revenue for the local chapter of START.
START is a Florida non-profit foundation with the mission to minimize the social, biological and economic effects of red tide events. It is dedicated to education, research and mitigation of the powerful effects of red tide. Proceeds from this event will go toward producing an educational program for students about red tide, water quality and how they can be better marine stewards.
Board member and idea man behind this event, Ralph Woodring offered a number of unique auction items that are one-or-a-kind cracker experiences.
A special thanks to sponsors for stepping up early to support our efforts. They were Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, Ralph & Jean Woodring, and Lily & Company at the Red Roe Level. Sponsors at the Mullet level are Bailey’s General Store; Dan Hahn Custom Builders; Nave Plumbing; John Grey Painting; Pfeiffer Realty Group, Sand Castle Construction and Big Red Q Quickprint.
