Hospitality industry awards honor exceptional customer service in Lee County, “E” Awards

To increase public awareness of extraordinary customer service provided by hospitality employees throughout Lee County, seven workers were recognized by receiving the Elaine McLaughlin Outstanding Hospitality Service Awards at the 10th annual ceremony in Fort Myers today.

Visitors from across America, throughout Florida, along with visitors from Ireland, Norway, and Germany, submitted a record 371 nominations, giving high praise to those local employees who provided outstanding customer service. Sponsored by the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) and The News-Press, the “E” Awards is a collaboration with various local businesses to encourage and support service excellence being provided by Lee County hospitality professionals.

“Love That Dress” collection party,The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County

The Royal Shell Companies, Norman Love Confections and The Timbers Restaurant hosted Sanibel’s very first “Love That Dress” collection party benefiting The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County.

Admission was one gently used dress. The event was at Adventures in Paradise Outfitters store in Tahitian Gardens. This year’s “Love That Dress” debut was a huge success and a great amount of people came out to support the The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County.

“It has always been a part of the Royal Shell culture to give back to the community and this event is a wonderful opportunity for us to do that,” stated Randy Bacik of The Royal Shell Companies.

“Aligning ourselves as a sponsor in the company of Norman Love Confections and the Timbers Restaurant will most assuredly make this one of our finer events.”

Royal Shell Vacations, Sanibel and Captiva Islands largest vacation rentals company, has announced a new sweepstakes offer of 7 nights free in a two-bedroom beach condo on the grounds of Captiva Island’s popular South Seas Resort.

Yesterday, we talked to Lee County Florida District 4 Commissioner, Tammy Hall. We were extremely happy to hear what she had to say! Although the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill has harmed a lot of things, Sanibel and Captiva are still SAFE! We learned that our water is clean and our beaches are still beautiful and this is actually a great time to visit Sanibel & Captiva. Check out our backyard and enjoy a wonderful Island Vacation!

The Official Sanibel Island & Captiva Island Chamber of Commerce, Update on the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill – Our Beaches are Clean

Our Beaches are Clean and Open
The only oil on our beaches is suntan oil!

Updated June 11, 2010 1:30 p.m.
At this time, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill has not impacted Sanibel, Captiva or Fort Myers Beach. The Florida Division of Emergency Management does not expect the oil to impact the Sanibel/Captiva/Fort Myers Beach area between now and Monday, June 14. Forecasts are being made in 72 hour increments. There are no projections beyond that time frame.

Officials on Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach are monitoring the situation closely and will respond accordingly to any potential impact on our area. If you are traveling to the destination within the next few days, you can monitor the websites below for the latest updates on the spill and check back with this site for specific information regarding Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach .

J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island is reporting, “There are currently no impacts to our refuge waters. The beaches are clean and open.”

As a precaution, however, Royal Shell has mounted a beach watch to assure potential visitors that Sanibel and Captiva Island beaches continue to stay oil-free, with nothing but sand and shells.

In addition, Royal Shell has announced a special refund policy in the event oil does wash onto the beaches, and the beaches are closed by local health officials. This policy assures renters of Royal Shell Vacations properties that official closure of the beaches by City of Sanibel or Lee County authorities will qualify those renters for a proportionate refund for days remaining in their rental period.

“This is a major commitment by our company”, says Royal Shell CEO, Randy Bacik.

“We understand that all the media coverage about the oil spill in the north Gulf has people concerned about their Florida vacations. While we can’t guarantee that extreme weather conditions will not drive oil towards our beaches, we can assure our renters that their vacation investments will not be at risk” states Randy Bacik.

Royal Shell Vacations manages more than 400 privately owned rental accommodations on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, from beachfront condos and homes to homes on Sanibel that are available for longer stays.

The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at ‘Tween Waters Inn Island Resort on Captiva Island was absolutely wonderful once again! The 60 minute show started at sunset on Captiva. Food, music and a beautiful Christmas tree made this annual Holiday event as unforgettable as every year! The Christmas Tree is said to have over 100,000 lights, which can been seen by visitors and Islanders almost everywhere on Captiva. We at the SanibelCaptivaDaily, highly recommend you stop by ‘Tween Waters Inn Island Resort to see the famous Christmas tree for yourself! SOUTH SEAS ISLAND RESORT MANAGING DIRECTOR HOSTED EVENT CLOSE TO HIS HEART WITH 1^st ANNUAL BUDDY WALK

South Seas Island Resort hosted Southwest Florida’s “Buddy Walk.” While promoting awareness and acceptance, the Buddy Walk raised $8,000 for the National Down Syndrome Society and Sanibel Sea School, a 501(c) 3 non-profit foundation.

The walk began at 11:00 a.m. With 75 walkers pre-registered, the event doubled expectations as 150 walkers – children, parents, grandparents, siblings and friends – strolled together for a 1.5 mile walk down historic Plantation Road. Captiva Island, ’Tween Waters Inn Island Resort, “Voodoo Island” Halloween Party

Captiva Island, ’Tween Waters Inn Island Resort, “Voodoo Island” Halloween Party. Captiva Island’s most notorious Halloween party at ’Tween Waters Inn Island Resort was last night! The “Voodoo Island” fright, was from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. It was a great time, good music, friendly conversation and — oh yeah — famous (and infamous) costumes.  There was a  $1,000 costume contest with judging at midnight with a lot of good costume! The night started out rocking the beach with music by an island favorite, the Modulators. This high-energy band covered  favorite songs, along with some originals, including a range in rock, blues and reggae. Captiva Island’s most notorious Halloween party is back at the legendary ‘Tween Waters Inn Island Resort. Risk a hex or curse and plan to join in the “Voodoo Island” fright October 31, 2009 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. or until you drop gruesomely dead. Be ready for good times, great music, friendly conversation and – oh yeah – those famous (and infamous) costumes.

The Sanibel Benefit for Eric Vartdal at the Pawnbroker Restaurant Group’s, Timbers Sports Bar

The Sanibel Benefit for Eric Vartdal at the Pawnbroker Restaurant Group’s, Timbers Sports Bar. This weekend was the Benefit for Eric Vartdal at Timbers sports bar from the conglomerate, Pawnbroker Restaurant Group. The Island community really came together to support Eric Vartdal. Kip Buntrock was one of the elite who was responsible for organizing this great event. Timbers sports bar was absolutely packed, it was nice seeing so many people come out and contribute to raise money! To name a few, Randy and Kim Bacik of Island Cinema, Don DeLuca of RLR, Barb Harrington, Barefoot Charley and Coconut Laura, Attorney Robert Monk and Amy, Marcia Kimball, Tracy and Connie Walters, Heather Silbar and Mark Blust. There were so many people there, we were not able to cover all of them but they all showed their support. There was a $20 donation at the door, silent auctions and live auction which Victor Mayeron was the auctioneer; all of the proceeds went to the Benefit. The people who were there, had a great time with the food and entertainment. Matt Asen from Timbers Restaurant & Sports Bar and the Pawnbroker Restaurant Group, completely supported this event and raised a lot of money for the benefit.
