Hospitality industry awards honor exceptional customer service in Lee County, “E” Awards

To increase public awareness of extraordinary customer service provided by hospitality employees throughout Lee County, seven workers were recognized by receiving the Elaine McLaughlin Outstanding Hospitality Service Awards at the 10th annual ceremony in Fort Myers today.

Visitors from across America, throughout Florida, along with visitors from Ireland, Norway, and Germany, submitted a record 371 nominations, giving high praise to those local employees who provided outstanding customer service. Sponsored by the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) and The News-Press, the “E” Awards is a collaboration with various local businesses to encourage and support service excellence being provided by Lee County hospitality professionals.

One of Captiva’s Favorite Artist, Robert Rauschenberg

Iconoclastic, generous, inventive, impulsive, sensitive, gregarious, prodigious: these are just some of the words to describe Robert Rauschenberg and the art he has been making now for 50 years. From the age of 38, when he received the grand prize at the Venice Biennale in 1964, Rauschenberg has been a pivotal figure in the art of our time. 

Rauschenberg is also known as one of Captiva’s favorite artist. His well known studio is located on the Island and is still running and producing great work from all of the talented people who keep it going.

Sanibel & Captiva, City’s Hurricane Plan and Personal Hurricane Planning

City Sponsors Hurricane Seminar: August 19th, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at BIG Arts. The City of Sanibel is sponsoring the 2010 Hurricane Seminar for Island residents, property owners, business owners, and Island workers.

The seminar is free and reservations are not required. Please take the time to attend this Seminar to ensure that you have all the important and up-to-date information relative to the City’s Hurricane Plan and personal hurricane planning. Main Topics to be discussed will be the 2010 Hurricane predictions, the Special Needs Program, Family Hurricane Planning, and City of Sanibel building codes. The seminar will be held at the BIG Arts Center, 900 Dunlop Road, August 19th, 2010 @ 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“Love That Dress” collection party,The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County

The Royal Shell Companies, Norman Love Confections and The Timbers Restaurant hosted Sanibel’s very first “Love That Dress” collection party benefiting The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County.

Admission was one gently used dress. The event was at Adventures in Paradise Outfitters store in Tahitian Gardens. This year’s “Love That Dress” debut was a huge success and a great amount of people came out to support the The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County.

“It has always been a part of the Royal Shell culture to give back to the community and this event is a wonderful opportunity for us to do that,” stated Randy Bacik of The Royal Shell Companies.

Yesterday, we caught up with the Sanibel Sea School as they enjoyed milk and cookies at the Sanibel Community House. The Sanibel Sea School held their Friday review while digging into some great treats and going over what they learned from the past week. While we were there, we even learned new things, like you are 200% more likely to be killed by a toaster oven than being eaten by a shark! 31st Annual Optimist Club’s Road Rally, Sanibel & Captiva

The results of the 31st Annual Road Rally are in.  This year’s 4th of July weekend celebration Optimist Club Road Rally was a terrific success with 34 cars/teams scouring the island for over 100 answers to clever questions prepared by co-chairmen Richard McCurry and Randy Carson. Sanibel Fishing with Venture Out, Sanibel Fish

If you are like we are, you are looking to do some great Fishing from Sanibel. Well, you should call up the boys from Venture Out in Cape Coral. We went out with another group of fishing for Sanibel Fish and it was a great time! We caught some small fish and a couple of SHARKS! It was more than a great time! Royal Shell Hosts “Love That Dress” Collection Party on Sanibel

The Royal Shell Companies, Norman Love Confections and The Timbers Restaurant and are excited to host Sanibel’s very first “Love That Dress” collection party benefitting The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County. This “Girls Night Out” party will take place at Tahitian Gardens, 1975 Periwinkle Way on Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 5 -7 p.m.

Live Feed of Sanibel’s 4th of July Parade at The Community House

The Community House will be showing the Sanibel’s 4th of July parade live! Local filmmaker Rusty Farst and Gene Rogers of Attic Chat Productions will be shooting the entire parade and be screening it live for everyone to see at the Sanibel Community House! This is the first time ever a live show of the 4th of July celebration will be streamed as it is happening! 3 Cameras will be shooting from the street, next to the judges, and an eye in the sky from the high lift bucket and will be edited live! Besides screening live inside The Community House, they will be re-showing the parade right after to let you see it again with commentary from Star Evette Zurbriggen.
