Update on the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill. What is happening to Sanibel & Captiva because of the BP Oil Spill? Our Beaches are still Beautiful and our water is Clean! Great time for a Island Vacation!

Yesterday, we talked to Lee County Florida District 4 Commissioner, Tammy Hall. We were extremely happy to hear what she had to say! Although the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill has harmed a lot of things, Sanibel and Captiva are still SAFE! We learned that our water is clean and our beaches are still beautiful and this is actually a great time to visit Sanibel & Captiva. Check out our backyard and enjoy a wonderful Island Vacation!

Tamara Pigott, Executive Director of the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau also talked to us on camera to express what a great time it is to take a vacation in our unspoiled waters of SWFL. Not only are the beaches on Sanibel & Captiva OIL FREE, there are lots of other great reasons to visit! There are great deals on accommodations, shopping, restaurants and services. If you are thinking about visiting Sanibel & Captiva, now is the time to do it! Watch the video and see for yourself! Once you do that, explore our site more and start planning your next PERFECT vacation on the Islands!

Have you, or someone you love, been diagnosed with breast cancer?

Genae Girard, close family member of Southwest Florida local, Sandy Kostick, just received a bit of good news from the New York Times.

Before Diagnosed

“A federal judge on Monday struck down patents on two genes linked to breast and ovarian cancer. The decision, if upheld, could throw into doubt the patents covering thousands of human genes and reshape the law of intellectual property…(which is) a pretty significant impact on the future of medicine.” -New York Times

genae

Genae Girard, author of, Off the Rack: Chronicles of a thirty-something, single, breast cancer survivor, was one of the plaintiffs in this Federal case. Good news goes a long way when fighting the difficulties of breast and ovarian cancer. With an estimated 476,126 women who pass away every year from breast cancer, medical treatment still has a long way to go.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with breast cancer, click on some of the local links below to see what you can do and what is being done about this horrible disease.

    Business, Captiva, Health, Sanibel

    Press Release

In association with the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce’s summer program, Sanibel Wellness has launched a new website, SanibelHealthRetreats.com.  The website brings together island businesses to offer vacation packages, workshops, and retreats that include accommodations, healthy meals, fitness, nutrition, health services, and island activities.
The program is in its initial phase of coordinating accommodations, products and services and is looking for more island individuals and businesses to participate by joining the group’s vendor list, or, by designing and hosting a retreat of their own.
A meeting of interested individuals and businesses is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26th from 12:00-1:30PM at Sanibel Community House at 2155 Periwinkle Way.  The intentions of  the meeting is to have an open discussion of ways of working together to provide all inclusive guest stays, workshops and retreats.  A delicious, healthy lunch will be served.  If you or your business is interested in participating please RSVP by contacting Sanibel Wellness at 239-395-1100 or  sanibelwellness2402@mac.com.
“Ultimately we want the program to provide additional business for all of its vendors during the summer and shoulder seasons”, states Brian Healy, director of Sanibel Wellness.  “More and more people are looking to incorporate health and wellness into their precious down time and where better to restore yourself than Sanibel and Captiva?  Many people already come here with relaxation and renewal in mind and we want to give it to them in big, high quality doses!”
