DID YOU KNOW?

We can help your business in many ways. Here are just a few reasons:

Do you have a website? Do you have a blog? Are you attached to all Social Media?  Did you know 400 countries and over 368 social networks are attached to our sites? Many try to do this all themselves, rather than focusing on your own business. We do not own a restaurant, a real estate agency, a retail store, etc. We focus on what we are good at. Shouldn’t you? Think about this for a moment:

What if we switched business’s for a day. Could we run yours? Can you run ours? The answer is obvious. NO!  If you have time to do all we offer, you’re not focusing your energy in the right area. Many try to do it themselves. They get off to a great running start and fizzle out. That is why we are so very important to you. The Internet is POWERFUL. Your looking at it right now! Imagine if more people were looking at your business.Ask yourself this:  Do you really have the time and knowledge to do all necessary to accomplish the goals of all this? If you do, your business is not as successful as it could or should be. FACT.

WHAT WE OFFER:

SanibelCaptivaDaily.com was launched in 2008 to promote local business and events. Being extremely successful in that short amount of time, we were forced to open up the FortMyersdaily.com;  and the FortMyersBeachDaily.com with other communities on the horizon.

Our statistics are sound, as they originate in Google’s analytics, greatly effective web-based tools and state-of-the-art diagnostic tools. With our experience and know-how, we can track factual statistics and data about our company’s effectiveness as well as our clients. Our capabilities allow us to monitor visitors to our site and your postings in order to gear your message to your viewer’s desires. This optimizes your exposure to your specified target audience.

Our powerful “add this” button provides the option for the visitor to push the posting onto any of the social networks that they are involved with; launching it out to the world of web.

Unlike other traditional advertising, we average over 500,000 page views or ‘visits which are more beneficial –as opposed to ‘hits’ on a web site. A ‘hit’ would be the same as someone window shopping your business; where as a ‘visit’ equates to a customer actually entering your store to look around.

When we first started, we were all about direct traffic, meaning 100% of the people would have to type in for example: www.sanibelcaptivadaily.com because we were so fresh.

Today, with our tremendous growth spurt our numbers changed, 48% are coming to us via search engines, 28% coming to us via referring sites, and now 35 % are direct traffic.

We have accomplished this by utilizing Key Words and SEO in addition to websites throughout the world pulling our feeds and putting them on their own sites, an extremely powerful concept. We are also attached to 8 blog directories and over 368 social networks. In addition to that, our site is seen in every state and well over 400 countries. Each time we do a posting on a client; we “Key Word” and optimize our clients business. The more postings we do, the more powerful their business will become.

With all of this in mind, we literally have the power to catapult you like no other out to the world of Google.

Placing an ad on the Daily.com provides incredible results, a great click-through rate is 10%, and our clients average 50% to 99% depending on their positioning. The reason is our limited advertising space, we do this to ensure our clients are seen and not lost. In addition, we have learned, it is not only the ad but the POWER OF THE POSTING.

Our site has 8 pages and every time someone visits; they average clicking on at least 4 pages, and, they spend about 2.5 minutes on the site. Every day 52% of our visits are by first time viewers. Statistics show that over 80% of those new visitors become daily users.

People can’t miss us when we are working in the field. We are dressed from head to toe in our powerful colors: pink and green, branding and logo. When we are out taking photos, we hand out our signature Daily.com cards to every person we photograph. Our cards are so powerful that people like to hold on to them as if they were credit cards. The cards clearly state, where the photo will be seen within 24 to 48 hours.

Along with our packaging options, we offer a great number of extras to help your business succeed and give you the advantage in the competitive world of on-line marketing.

  • Video Production:  A video can be utilized for your company’s web site, online marketing, and television.
  • High Resolution Photography:  With High Resolution photos, you have the capability to use them for graphic designs, brochures, and large needed formats. Not only can we take your photos on land, we have the resources to take professional underwater and aerial photography.
  • News Release: Creating a document customized for your target audience, locally, nationally or international by distributing them to the proper channels.
  • Web Design:  It is extremely important to have a well-known presence on the web which the Daily.com can accommodate. We have the capability to design and create your online personality while optimizing it to full potential, with the best developers around.
  • Social Media Workshop: As we have learned over the years, this will enhance your business as we work together to catapult you into the world of web. We enjoy training our clients how to do things for themselves when it comes to the ever-changing art of technology.
  • Social Media Maintenance: You as a business owner may not have the time readily available to maintain your own social media presence. We offer services where we maintain your accounts/pages for you to free up more time within your daily responsibilities.

And much, much more such as:

  • Mobile SMS Text Package
  • Event planning
  • Q R codes

Just to name a few….It is ever-changing daily.

If your business is not keeping up with the ever-changing trends of online media and you’re not using any if not all of the above, statistics show your competitors who are, already have an extremely substantial advantage.

We look forward to working with you and helping you grow your business through this fast and ever-changing world of technology.

Marine Lance Cpl. Christian Brown, a disabled veteran, was wheeled down to the last row of the airplane and bumped up against aisle seats after he had assumed he would board toward the front. He was embarrassed to tears, the Washington Post reports. What’s more, when two first-class passengers on a Delta airlines flight saw Brown, who lost both his legs after stepping on an explosive device in Afghanistan, suffer a humiliating boarding process, they offered to switch seats with him — a gesture that was refused by the flight attendant, retired Army Lt. Col. Keith Gafford told the Washington Post. “[He] was obviously humiliated by being paraded through the aircraft and was visibly upset,” Retired Army Col. Nickey Knighton, a fellow passenger on the Atlanta to Washington flight wrote in a complaint, obtained by the Washington Post. “I touched Brown on his shoulders and asked if he was okay. Tears ran down his face, but he did not cry out loud.” To make matters worse, Brown was battling a high fever, and was heading to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., according to the Post. Delta issued a statement indicating they were investigating the incident, the news outlet reports. Sadly this isn’t the first time airlines have allegedly mistreated veterans. Last month, former Marine Sgt. Joseph Smith filed a lawsuit against United Airlines and airport workers at Chicago O’Hare International airport alleging that airline workers tipped over his wheelchair while boarding a plane, which caused his catheter bag to spill and left him to soak in his own urine on the flight, CBS Chicago reports. The incident happened two year ago, according to the Post. In July, Jim Stanek, a three-tour Iraq veteran said United Airlines employees kicked his service dog, Sarge, and asked him if he was retarded, the Daily Mail reports. He later posted a YouTube video describing the episode. Stanek, who has a brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder, says the incident has inspired him to reach out to others who have been mistreated by United Airlines staff and also to raise awareness for PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, according to the Daily Mail. CAPTIVA ISLAND FLORIDA, SANIBEL ISLAND FLORIDA: THOMAS C. REED BURNSED

CAPTIVA ISLAND FLORIDA, SANIBEL ISLAND FLORIDA: THOMAS C. REED BURNSED

THIS LETTER CAME TO ME FROM
AMY BURNSED MCKAY:

Sandy,

Tommy was born in Battle Creek, Michigan June 26, 1949. We don’t know a lot about his early life. We do know that at some point after his birth parents died Tommy moved to Florida to live with his niece. That is when my parents, Jim and Dall Burnsed, met him. This would have been around 1975 and Tommy was probably 25 years old. We lived in a rural area east of Orlando and Tommy’s niece lived in our neighborhood. The situation was not a good one. Tommy was not allowed in his niece’s house. She made him sleep outside in a tool shed. He wasn’t allowed to shower or use the restroom in her house either. She also did not feed Tom. Pretty much, Tommy was homeless and alone. Tommy would walk around the neighborhood begging for food. My mother would make him bologna sandwiches. Once my dad realized what the situation was he and my mom started taking care of Tommy. When they decided to move to Sanibel they didn’t want to leave Tommy behind. I’m not sure how they convinced his niece to let him go with us but they did and, in 1980 my family moved to Sanibel and Tommy moved with us. Since then Tommy has lived with my parents. My parents cared for and loved Tommy as much as cared for and loved all of their other children. Family vacations, family pictures, holidays, everything we did, included Tom. When they moved to the Island my parents took a job managing Blind Pass Cottages and Marina. Tommy would walk around the property and collect coconuts. He made himself a little roadside stand and he would sell the coconuts. Returning guests and residents started calling him “Coconut Tom.” Tommy worked at the very first Lazy Flamingo washing dishes. I’m sure he wasn’t the best employee but everyone loved having Tommy around. In 1982 Jim started working as a fishing guide and Tommy became his first mate. Tommy enjoyed working on the boat with Jim. They were a team! Tommy also loved fishing tournaments. Mostly he enjoyed the parties and trophies that went along with the tournaments. Tommy worked with Jim on the boat until just a few years ago. Then he “retired” and spent his days at home with Dall. He loved Elvis Presley. He spent his days listening Elvis on his stereo and signing along while he made his potholders. He liked to work outside too. He had his own little tractor and would drive around the yard picking up sticks or raking a little. Tommy was born with Down’s syndrome and as the years went on he developed dementia. He also had a heart condition called aortic stenosis. In October 2012 the doctor’s told us that his heart condition was progressing and they gave him 6 months to a year. So, we threw him a party! He loved parties. I hired an Elvis impersonator and he brought Tommy up on stage with him. Tommy danced and sang and had a wonderful time. It was so great because Tommy’s dementia was really bad. My parents were afraid he wouldn’t know what was going on. I always tell my parents it was a miracle. God gave us one more day with the Tom we all remembered. On Friday, February 22, 2013 at 3:05 p.m. Tommy passed away. My mother and my sister, Tracy, were with him. They held his hand and told him they loved him. Tommy was a good man. He was always happy and he loved meeting people. His life’s accomplishments may not seem that great but the impact he had on my family and everyone he met was monumental. Since his passing people say things like, “Your family gave him a great life.” or “He was lucky you’re parents found him.” Bu the truth is Tommy that we are the lucky ones! We are so very lucky that Tom found us! We are all much better people for having known and loved him. Thank-you so much for this! It will mean the world to my mom and dad. They want everyone to know how much they loved Tommy and how important he was. No one should be discarded the way Tommy was. Especially people born with Down’s syndrome. These people aren’t insignificant burdens, they are God’s treasures and they should be loved and cherished. Trust me what you get in return is far greater than what you have to put in. Thanks Again, Amy (Burnsed) McKay

HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOT AND WHEN I THINK OF HIM, I SMILE. “

Willard Scott of the Today Show chilling out on Captiva Island Florida

Scott was tapped by NBC in 1980 to become its weatherman for The Today Show, replacing Bob Ryan, who replaced him at WRC-TV until 2010. After being inspired by a viewer request, Scott began his practice of wishing centenarians a happy birthday on-air in 1983.

During the 1980s, Scott routinely did weather reports on the road, interviewing locals at community festivals and landmarks. He also periodically did the program from Washington D.C., which he still considered his home. During this time, NBC executives told the bald Scott to wear a hairpiece. He complied when in New York, but refused when outside of the studio, resulting in a strange dichotomy on the air.

In 1989, The Today Show co-host Bryant Gumbel wrote an internal memo critical of the show’s personalities. The memo was leaked to the media. Gumbel said Scott “holds the show hostage to his assortment of whims, wishes, birthdays and bad taste … This guy is killing us and no one’s even trying to rein him in.”[5] This garnered enough of a backlash that Gumbel was shown making up with Scott on the show.[6]

Although he is no longer The Today Show’s full-time weatherman, Scott continues to appear twice a week on the long-running morning program to wish centenarians a happy birthday and to substitute for regular weatherman Al Roker during his absences. He appears from the studio lot of WBBH, the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, Florida. He is also currently the commercial voice—taking over the job from the late Mason Adams—of Smucker’s jellies which sponsors his birthday tributes on The Today Show.  Credit: Via Wikipedia

Sanibel Sea School’s Octifest, a Good Cause on the Causeway

On Saturday March 31, Sanibel Sea School will celebrate six years on the islands of Sanibel and Captiva with their annual fundraising party – Octifest on the Beach in a tent on Causeway Island A.  Guests can look forward to a sunset that can’t be beat, a gourmet local and sustainable dinner, good music, good friends and a good cause.  Proceeds will benefit scholarships to Sanibel Sea School and the gap between tuition and the cost of the programs for all students who attend Sanibel Sea School programs.

Octifest sponsors recently gathered at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille to celebrate together and enjoy each other’s company, thanks to the generosity of Mark and Heidi Marinello and Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille.

Principal corporate sponsors for the Octifest on the Beach are PURRE and Lily and Co. who will be the key ingredient of a grand prize adventure that involves floating coconuts, glow sticks, and bobbing wishes cast off into the ocean.  So, prepare for surprise.

Some highlights of the live auction will be:

  •  A two-hour floating cocktail party aboard the Sanibel Thriller
  • Doc Ford and Doc Bruce – a boat trip with Doc Bruce to lunch with Randy Wayne White at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille on the wharf at Fort Myers Beach
  • The Sanibel Sea School Powerwashing Team: the scientist blasters will clean your house or dock
  • And more!

There will be opportunities small and large to contribute and even more importantly, there will be opportunities to learn about Sanibel Sea School, a 501c3 dedicated to a world in which all people value, understand and care for the ocean.  For tickets to Octifest, call Dina at 472-8585.  To find out more about Sanibel Sea School, visit sanibelseaschool.org and take a look at what we do every day!

Sanibel & Captiva – The Shellacious Islands

Shelling on Sanibel Island & Captiva Island Florida
The Sanibel “Stoop”

What you need to know about Florida Seashells on Sanibel & Captiva Islands

The Sanibel “Stoop”

Sanibel Island and Captiva Island have earned their reputation as the Shell Islands honestly. They are actually made out of shells, like some magnificent work of shell art created over thousands of years. When islanders dig gardens in their backyards, they find conchs, whelks, scallops and clam shells often perfectly intact.

The best shelling is found on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Islands. The islands rank tops in the world for shelling because of geography. Sanibel Island does the twist as it parades along the coastline among a string of other more orderly, straight-and-narrow islands. The east-west torque of Sanibel’s south end acts like a shovel scooping up all the seashells that the Gulf imports from The Caribbean and other southern seas.

The abundance and variety of shells have made Sanibel and Captiva Islands shell-obsessed. People come from all over the world, drawn by the song of the seashell. They parade along the sands doubled over in a stance that’s been dubbed the Sanibel Stoop. Every March, they gather to compare and appreciate shell collections and shell art at the annual Sanibel Shell Fair & Show. Throughout the year, shell shops sell seashells by the seashore (and by the thousands). Shells are the dominant motif in island decor and boutique gifts. You’ll find everything from finely crafted “shell-igrams” to lucite toilet seats with seashells lacquered in. (No home should be without one!)

Where to Shell

All of the Gulf-side shelling beaches from the Lighthouse to North Captiva. For a list of public beaches, go to Sanibel Beaches.

When to Shell

At low tide when the seashells are more exposed, especially at low spring tides (at full and new moons) and after Gulf storms have driven the shells up the Gulf onto our shelling beaches.

How to Shell

Bring bucket or net bag and scoop. Wear shoes and shuffle to expose partially hidden mollusks and to scare away fish.

What to Expect

Shells of many types and sizes are found on our shelling beaches. As a general rule the smaller seashells are found on the Lighthouse end of the island chain and the larger ones nearer Captiva and North Captiva. Conch, Junonia, Lightning Whelk, Cockle, Scallops, Murex, Tulip, Olive, Coquina, are among the species you may expect to find.

Guide to Sanibel & Captiva Shelling and Seashells

Seashell Ecology

Seashells come in two major varieties. The gastropod has a single shell and includes such species as conchs and whelks. Bivalves, such as clams, cockles and scallops, live within two hinged shells. The empty seashells you find layered on the beach once were home to soft-tissued animals called mollusks. Mollusks build their shells by secreting a liquid that eventually hardens around them. As the animals grow, their shells grow with them. Special glands create color pigments just before new layers of shell harden.

Shells and their inhabitants play an important role in Sanibel and Captiva islands ecology. They help keep our sand neatly in place and restock it with more as they’re crushed by waves and other forces. They provide food for birds and fish. The scavenging and filtering performed by certain mollusks help cleanse Gulf waters.

Shelling Law & Florida Seashell Preservation

Because seashells are important to the islands’ chain of life, and because Sanibel and Captiva are refuge islands where all life is considered precious, the State of Florida has outlawed the collecting of live shells on the island. “Live shell” is defined as any specimen containing an inhabitant, whether or not the mollusk seems alive. The law also protects sand dollars, starfish and sea urchins. All shelling is prohibited in J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

Sheller’s are urged to limit even their empty-shell collection. Hauling away seashells by the bucketful diminishes supplies and the value of a single shell. For, as Anne Morrow Lindbergh in Gift From the Sea wrote while visiting these islands, “One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.”

Types of Shells on Sanibel Island & Captiva Island

Conch shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Conch Shells

Of the extensive conch family, fighting conchs are those most commonly found on Sanibel and Captiva shelling beaches. Ironically, contrary to its macho name, the fighting conch is one of the few vegetarian univalves. While alive, the seashell flames brilliant orange, but fades under tropical sunshine. It is a shrunken version of the queen conch, which once was fished in Florida for its meat. Conch harvesting is now illegal in the state.

Junonia shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Junonia Shells

The islands’ most coveted seashell, it belongs to the volute family. Its milky chamber is covered with brown spots on the outside, and the animal that occupies the shell is likewise marked. Shellers who find a junonia on Sanibel or Captiva get their pictures in the local newspaper.

Whelk shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Lightning Whelk Shells

Unlike its cousin whelks, the lightning variety is usually “left-handed.” Thus, its name: Busycon contrarium. It lays its miniature shell eggs in papery egg case streamers that wash up on the beach. Lightning whelks grow up to 16 inches long and were used by early island natives for tools.

Cockle shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Cockle Shells

The heart cockle is one the islands’ most common shells, though a rarity in other parts of the world. The cockle mollusk is a footed creature that can jump several inches in a single leap. Islanders often use its accommodatingly large cockleshell for soap dishes.

Tulip shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Tulip Shells

Banded tulips and their larger, rarer cousins, true tulips, frequently wash up on island shores to the delight of collectors who revel in their intriguing patterns and delicately swirling form.

Sand dollar shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Sand dollar Shells

Technically classified as an echinoderm, not a mollusk, its life is nonetheless protected on Sanibel and Captiva. While alive, the thin, flat sand dollar is brown and bristled with tiny tubes that permit it to breath, move and camouflage itself. Unoccupied seashells bleach to a beautifully white textured pattern, perfect for hanging on Christmas tree boughs with red satin ribbon.

Olive shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Olive Shells

Named for its elongated oval shape, the olive comes in a variety of colors and variations, and often sports a glossy finish. By the time it reaches island beaches, it has usually been sun-bleached white, however. Olives seashells rarely grow beyond three inches long

Coquinas shells on Sanibel – Captiva Florida

Coquinas Shells

The beach’s most well-attired clams, they dress in colorful stripes, solids, and even plaids. Opened and flattened, they look like tiny butterflies. Old islanders used to dig them up at the water’s edge to boil for broth. Because they are a food shellfish, coquinas are one of few shells that can be collected live on Sanibel and Captiva. They burrow into shallow sand at the water’s edge. When exposed by a wave, they wriggle back into dampness. If you’ve planted your feet where they’ve washed up, you get the sensation of a foot massage as they burrow beneath you.
