Sanibel Entertainment, Bailey Fest

Yesterday was Sanibel’s Bailey Fest, located in the Bailey Center. It was a great time with lots of things to do, some of Sanibel’s best entertainment. There was singing, dancing, comedy acts, juggling, games, pumpking carving contest and a dunk tank. Even the Sanibel Fire & Rescue was there signing their 2010 calendars! With places like Biddles Bucket, the Grog shop, and Island Cinema, Bailey’s Center was the place to be. Miss Barb With Toddlers

The Sanibel Public Library is teaching children of all ages to fall in love with reading. Miss Barb has been bringing books alive with her reading programs that start with children from the ages of newborn to 5 years old.  She includes arts and crafts as well as, read to Rocky, a very cool dog. Your children are sure to have fun.

 Upon visiting  the After School Sanibel Recreational Program, we witnessed first-hand children of Sanibel Island having a blast.  Dave DeFonzo, Youth Director, has done an awesome job in creating a fun atmosphere for children from Kindergarten to 8th grade to enjoy. Activities available include sports of all kinds, arts and crafts, a game room and yes, even a homework room.

Biddles Buckets Are Entertaining The Youth And The Young at Heart

Owners, Andy and Brenda created a family fun weekend by hiring two very special guests this weekend. On Friday evening “Juggles” the clown came to entertain the crowds with balloon creations, awesome juggling skills, and much more! Everyone had a great time! On Saturday, caricature artist, Gus St. Anthony, wowed the guests, by doing complimentary cartoon drawings to those who wanted to participate.

Lions and tigers and bears…oh my!!!

Well, not quite!  It was more like “Lizards and turtles and snakes!! Egads!” at the Sanibel Public Library’s last Summer Reading Program event.  John Storms’ World of Reptiles was the main attraction.  John brought several different reptiles from a small lizard and a skink to a 90 pound snapping turtle.  Jessie, the 13 foot python was a huggable delight.  Kids, young and old alike enjoyed the creepy crawlies.

Your kids are going to “Kick Back” and enjoy this class! The Sanibel Rec Center offers 1st -3rd graders a karate class every Wednesday at 10:00am. Renschi, Carmen Diaz, is a 5th Degree Black Belt Karate Instructor. Your kids will love learning all the basic moves of Karate. The British are coming… the British are coming… and the French… and the Dutch… and the Norwegians. Holiday Inn was at 100% occupancy this weekend and we have our friends from abroad to thank.  We discovered that many countries were represented, along with a healthy dose of “Florida Travelers” as well as the local contingency enjoying the sun, fun, frozen drinks and great food of Courtney’s Tiki Bar. Managers Bruce Martin and John Volante were busy mixing and cooking up some treats to quench your thirst and feed the hunger.  All the pool bar classics are available:  coladas, ice cold brews and a very extensive lunch menu featuring the customary burger and dog as well as healthy wraps, salads and daily specials. What a great way to watch the fireworks in a comfortable and safe environment. Food, drinks, music, children’s activities all on gorgeous grounds. People set up lawn chairs and picnic blankets to watch Sanibel’s Fireworks. Everyone was dancing and as soon as dusk set in, fireworks began and you heard a lot of Ooo’s and Ahhh’s. The Dunes did a great job at this event.

The Optimist Club does it again with a huge 4th of July Road Rally success!

In its 29th year, the annual 4th of July Sanibel~Captiva Optimist Club Road Rally had lots of people, fun and cool cars to keep everyone smiling. The cars had names like, Driving Miss Crazy, Flour Power, Lady Bug, Island Rats, Victory Express, 3 Blind mice, Living the Dream, Prime Thyme, Blues Clues, Kara’s Kruisers, and The famous Martini Mama’s!
