If there is anything related to a sea shell, you’ll find it at the Sanibel Community House today! “Wave of Hope” Sanibel Beach Walk for Kids Cancer Care

The “Wave of Hope” Sanibel Beach Walk for Kids Cancer Care, hosted by the Sanibel~Captiva Optimist Club, will be held at Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel Island.

Join us for a 2k to 10k walk on one of Sanibel’s most spectacular beaches, featuring the live music styles of our very own Danny Morgan and Pittsburg Mike! Water and refreshments will be provided along the course and afterwards. Free parking for participants.
Cancer is still a leading cause of death in children under the age of 15, second only to accidents. The Sanibel~Captiva Optimist Club is proud to announce all proceeds from this event will benefit Barbara’s Friends - The Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund at Lee Memorial Hospital. The Children’s Hospital is located within the Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida.

Florida Boats, Dolphin Watching, Fun on the Water

What is that? A Bird, Plan or Dolphin! That is right, a viewer of the SanibelCaptivaDaily was on their boat the other day and went dolphin watching. The dolphins got so close to the wake, the boater was able to snap a couple of pictures! It it so cool that someone can go out and just have fun on the water and dolphins appear out of no where. Sanibel is definitely an awesome place to be!

Rotary Club of Sanibel-Captiva, 27th Annual Arts and Crafts Fair Sanibel & Captiva, Fund Raising Sanibel & Captiva

The Rotary Club of Sanibel-Captiva started its Annual Arts and Crafts Fair held on the grounds of The Community House on Sanibel Island, Florida. The event marks the 27th year the club has conducted a juried fair of crafts persons and artisans on the island. The first day of the fair was a huge success! Over 100 artist have their tents set up with photography, jewelry, crafts, painting, sculptors and more! There is also a Chinese auction and silent auction with goods from local business. The Arts and Crafts Fair brought in several hundreds of people to Sanibel and Captiva, all who had a blast! Sanibel Farmers Market

I have been hearing a lot of great things about the Sanibel Farmers Market, so I decided to check it out for myself.  The Market was held at Tahitian Gardens, right off of Periwinkle. I was shocked how great of an idea of this was. Fresh fruit, homemade pasta and sauces, and everything else you can imagine related to fresh food and vegetables! The Royal Shell Companies, in conjunction with the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce, held their Chamber After Hours at Ellington’s Jazz Club and Restaurant. The event’s highlight, was the official introduction of a new photographic art book by Alan S. Maltz. A portion of the proceeds for  ”Visions of Beauty - Fort Myers, Sanibel and Beyond” coffee table book sales and auction went to benefit CROW.

Sanibel and Captiva Blind Pass Ecosystem Restoration Project, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Blind Pass Ecosystem Restoration Project, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Sanibel & Captica. Friday,at Turner Beach Regional Park, was the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Blind Pass. Since the 1920’s, Blind Pass has been an unstable ecosystem due to it’s ever changing water ways. It now will provide a stable pass opening. With the new water way, it increases the habitat for mangroves, seagrasses, shorebirds, benthic invertebrates and fisheries. Brian Bigelow from the Lee County Board of County Commissioners was the MC of the event. Other important people responsible for the success of the new Blind Pass are as fallows. Day two of The First Annual Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament, Sanibel & Captiva Fishing

Yesterday was, day two of the First Annual Chix-N-Stix Fishing Tournament! Teams started fishing at 7:00am and continued all the way to about 3:00pm! There was a little rain in the beginning of the day but that didn’t stop the ladies from catching all of the Lady fish they could! After the last bucket was brought in to weight, everyone enjoyed great food and drinks by Bahama Breeze while at Fish-Tale Marina. Once all of the teams got some food, Kristi Riley and Lacey Rush announced the all of the winners! The whole event was AMAZING and a TON of fun! Everyone did a great job putting this weekend together and helped support our troops through Operation Open Arms. Please click below to see just some of the photos from yesterday! Yesterday, Beachview Golf & Tennis Club, held a Blessings in a Backpack event for the Lee County Chapter. This was the FIRST time a Blessings in a Backpack fundraising event was held on Sanibel Island, the event was great, the weather was wonderful and the turnout was excellent! Craig Albert, President of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank and board member for Blessings in a Backpack, played a vital role in bringing such a great cause to our island! The First Annual Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament, Sanibel Fishing

SanCap Cracker Fest, START, Sanibel Bait Box, Sanibel Fishing, Esperanza Woodring Memorial Cast Net Rodeo

Yesterday, the SanibelCaptiveDaily went to the Bait box for the Esperanza Woodring Memorial Cast Net Rodeo. It was all part of the START event from Friday night. It was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in Sanibel Florida. There was cast net throwing contest for the kids, teens, and even adults. Last night was the SanCap Cracker Fest, hosted by the local island chapter of START (Solutions to Avoid Red Tide). It was a one-of-a-kind evening, which celebrated our Florida island heritage. Sanibel Entertainment, Bailey Fest

Yesterday was Sanibel’s Bailey Fest, located in the Bailey Center. It was a great time with lots of things to do, some of Sanibel’s best entertainment. There was singing, dancing, comedy acts, juggling, games, pumpking carving contest and a dunk tank. Even the Sanibel Fire & Rescue was there signing their 2010 calendars! With places like Biddles Bucket, the Grog shop, and Island Cinema, Bailey’s Center was the place to be. Calling All Anglers, Get Ready for some Fishing, The First Annual Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament. The first event of this caliber for ladies in the fishing industry! Chix-N-Stix is taking over Southwest Florida on December 4th and 5th, 2009 on Fort Myers Beach, FL. With the cash and prize payout reaching over $5,000 and an entry fee of $100 for the ladies and $50 for the men there is no excuse not to come out and be a part of this huge event! The species of fish (ladyfish) has been kept fun to keep the pressure low; and there will be a couple of mystery fish categories, a youth division and a winner for the largest ladyfish.

The Official Sanibel Island & Captiva Island Chamber of Commerce, Ribbon Cutting. Last night was the ribbon cutting for four local Sanibel businesses. The Chamber event was a huge success, a lot of people showed up for this great event! There was plenty of tasty food and music, people really enjoyed the cool weather while being outside! Want to train for Sanibel’s F.I.S.H 10K on Oct. 17th, but think it still too darn hot, muggy, or rainy to do it outdoors? Then move your training inside to the SANIBEL HEALTH CLUB, where the price of admission is FREE for the day, as long as you bring a non-perishable food item or goods until Oct. 17th! That’s right, train for free at the SANIBEL HEALTH CLUB for bringing in non-perishable food, all for a great cause, F.I.S.H . SANIBEL HEALTH CLUB is located at 975 Rabbit Rd. Please be generous, all items will go to help F.I.S.H  to stock their food pantry.
