Technology Tips From Charly of ISG
Hi there!
Yep, it’s me! Charly from ISG!
As you may know, I’m extremely passionate about helping people make the most of technology.
I like to think I have an open mind about technology, and am on a constant mission to find ways to have technology make life easier…
Here are 7 Crucial Tips for Creating an Amazing Web Site:
- Read the best graphic, content, and awareness creation books possible. I recommend these three. The authors of these three books have spent millions, in the first book’s case, billions, of other people’s money figuring out exactly what helps you reach your goals.
- Find your uniqueness. Discover what separates you from the others that do what you, and capitalize on it. Learn more by reading this.
- The most important part - define your goal! Goals on the web usually come in three forms, learn all about them here.
- Create content so it naturally attracts search phrases used that relate to what you do! Learn more here.
- Find designs that inspire you, or find designs you don’t like. This will help you determine exactly how you want your web site to feel to others. I talk more about this here.
- Use incentives to get people to talk to you! We all know humans work from incentives, it motivates us to do so many things. It’s important you use that to your advantage in your web site. I talk more about this concept here.
- Test and measure everything - do more of what works, trim, or retool and retry what doesn’t! This is how you keep going, remember web sites are a journey, not a destination. That means your web site is never done! Learn how to do this here.
Here are some older tips I had on this page, for you to review as well:
Here we go:
- Never send an e-mail to more than 10 people using the TO: or CC: field.
It’s very rude to share e-mail addresses with others (especially, without their permission) and it can increase unsolicited e-mail to everyone as well! If you have to send something to many people - use the BCC feature in your e-mail program. - Always check Snopes.com before forwarding e-mails making outrageous claims, things you think you must share, or any e-mail that you want to ‘fact check’.
- When buying online - always assure you’re secure!
It’s simple - assure the web address has a “https://” in it (vs. a standard http://) or check for a lock (usually located in the lower right hand corner of your web browsing software i.e Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc). - Save money with Hulu.com by using the Internet to watch your favorite TV programs!
- Use Google to do math, do conversions, and look people up by phone number!
Go to Google, and do math by typing “1 + 5 * 20″ in the search box, do a conversion by typing “1 pound in ounces”, or “1 dollar in euros”, and finally type in someone’s phone number to learn more about them (many times this only works with land lines). - Windows Users: Save money on anti-virus software by using AVG.
- Mac Users: Run Windows applications on your Mac with Parallels or VMWare Fusion. I use a Mac, and I run Parallels for my Quickbooks for Windows WHILE I’m working with Mac programs - it works perfectly!
